Hello bank! is a digital direct bank owned by BNP Paribas that started operations in 2013. The bank operates in France, Belgium, Germany, Italy and Austria and now in Czech Republic. BNP Paribas is the first of its kind; a digital mobile bank in Europe.

Project objectives

Finding a new direction that focuses on systematising web experience to be more modular and targeted for mobile and tablet devices anywhere. Organised with hierarchical structure and clean design to evolve their existing out of date intranet into a rich and personalised user experience for each Hello Bank employee.

Long story short: for it to be a place that’s easily accessible, user friendly and for colleagues to be able to mingle with each other instantly. Something that wasn’t possible before.

Solution

I had to start from beginning, sadly nothing was reusable from the previous intranet. The old intranet was too obtuse with bad user experience and outdated design. Over the course of a few months we collected enough feedback from Hello Bank employees to make sure this intranet will be up to standards and a better place overall. We listened and collected their ideas and opinions and we got started on the new design.

As a solution we included different type of interactions, functions and design. We have seen a huge potential in Google Material Design, for us it was the right direction to go. That resulted not only in a better mobile and tablet experience, but it also allowed us to design and develop faster during the project, all the while keeping our visual language consistent on all pages. Iterations during the sprints were much quicker for developers to code, which was the key point for the client and the deadline we had.
